Moths

Despite being tiny and frequently overlooked, moths greatly affect UK homes, especially because of their larvae. An overview of the ways in which moths can impact your home or business is provided below:

Common types: White-shouldered house moth, Clothes Moth, Indian Meal Moth
Preferred conditions: Moths thrive in warm, humid areas and homes with poor ventilation or heating systems become prone to their infestation. Clothes or fabrics stored improperly (e.g., in damp, dark places) are prime targets for moths. Open or improperly sealed food containers attract pantry moths, which lay eggs in grains and dry goods.

Health risks: Moth scales, larvae, and droppings can cause allergic reactions in sensitive individuals, including skin irritation and respiratory issues. Persistent infestations can cause stress and frustration to homeowners, particularly when valuable or sentimental items are damaged.
Property damage: Moth larvae (not the adults) are notorious for feeding on natural fibres such as wool, silk, cotton, and fur. Larvae create irregular holes in fabrics often making them unusable.
